The President
Christ's School Alumni Association
1980-85 Set,
c/o Mr. J. Babatola
Ado-Ekiti.
My dear Co-alumni,
I bring you hearty greetings from the living present of our alma mater - the
place that had become (for all its alumni) a home away from home. The frenzy
and fervour that greeted the celebration of our 71st Founders Day in 2003 are
eloquent of the high esteem in which Christ's School is held by her alumni - to
the eternal Glory of God. May the school continue to grow from strength to
strength, not in name only, but in deed and in truth, in the might of He whose
name we bear, Amen.
2. Please recall your discussion with me and the incidental telephone discussion
with your Set President (Mr. Tade Aluko) at the Principal's Quarter this
afternoon on the pressiung needs of the school.
3. We thank God for sending on our way a N50m E.T.F. assistance for the
renovation of the ailing academic areas of the school. This spans:
-
all the nine (9) classroom blocks
-
the 3 Science Laboratories
-
the Technical Workshop
-
the Fine Art block
-
the Library
-
the Old Lecture theatre
-
the Principal's Office
-
the main drive
4. I am happy to report that despite the initial constraints, work on the
rehabilitation/renovation on some of the buildings has reached an advance
stage.
5. You will recall that at our 70th Annual Alumni Congress on Friday, 27th June
2003, it was unanimously decided to work towards the early return of Christ's
School to its original owners i.e. the Church of Nigeria - Anglican Communion
(CNAC) and for the Alumni Association to run and manage. The report of the
Segun Ogunkua Committee set up for this purpose is before the National
Executive Committee of the Association. This same Committee also visited the
issue of a merger between Christ's School and Christ's Girls's School.
6. With the kind assistance of the Federal Government of Nigeria through the ETF
Special Project, you will realise that the major area for Alumni assistance is
domestic where a lot needs to be done in making our facilities equitable and
presentable for this rejuvenated Christ's School of our dream.
7. Let me, however, priorise two of such pressing needs as follows:
-
Bore-hole: Adequate supply of treated pipe-borne water to the school still
remains elusive. Although we have two bore-holes- courtesy of two members of
our Alumni Association - their output is grossly inadequate to service the
school community. For us to have a proper hygenic water supply to the Kitchen
and the Dining Hall, we need a bore hole close to the Kitchen and exclusively
for the use of the Dining Hall.
-
18 Seater bus: For the past six years, Christ's School has no vehicle. To
convey athletes, sportmen, footballers and the school's representatives to
outside engagements had been most difficult. It is shameful that lesser schools
in Ekiti and of course private schools (Nursery/Primary inclusive) can boast of
school vans. We feel that at 71, this "shame" should be removed. Afterall "when
the big rat is old, it feeds on the milk of its siblings".
8. May I salute your Set's courage at coming together and thinking of your alma
mater as the cornerstone of your successes in life. This school made us. This
school now needs us. We must pay back.
9. I wish you happy deliberations.
"CHRIST IS OUR CORNERSTONE"
Up Schooooool!
Your Co-alumnus and Principal,
KEHINDE OJO (pcs).
