E-Newsletter - Our Alumni Events For 2006
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Great Alumni,

Happy new year, once again. May the new year bring a lot of good tidings to us all. For some time now, the executive body of our great Association has been looking for a way to inform you, our wonderful Alumni about the events that are being tabled to upgrade our dear school to that level that all of us have been dreaming of, for Christ's school to become a citadel of academic excellence and good moral standard. To rebuild Christ's school complete with all the basic amenities that will create an enabling environment for good learning. This is our goal and a task that must be done. If you will agree with me, honourable Alumni, there were various reasons why our parents sent us to Christ's School Ado-Ekiti, what ever the reason(s) may be, we all cherished the academic standard of the school, the enabling environment for high academic standard plus our foundation that was built on Christ. All these play a big part in what we are today.

Our parents sent us all to a great school, for all the benefits the school would offer us and with absolute conviction that we would all come out to be wonderful citizens with good academic standard and moral values. Today we are all very proud of the school, we are so proud of the school that virtually every one of us brag about what Christ's School Ado-Ekiti has given us all, and how great the school was.  But in reality how many of us have seen Christ's School recently? The present condition of our great school is a disgrace to all of us, and we really need to quickly address the dilapidated condition of the school. The periods of "piece-meal actions", lip service and procrastination on developing Christ's School are gone for ever, this is the time to pull together as one family to strategize and come-up with solutions that will upgrade our Alma Mater to a good and enviable academic standard in Nigeria.

In order for us to realize our dream of rebuilding our Alma Mater, our honourable executives, based on the advice and wisdom of some great Alumni, came up with the following projects for the year 2006. These projects are designed to be in three phases, with the first project serving as a corner stone for the rest.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The projects are:
  •  Project Christ's School Renewal - 2006 & beyond.
  •  First Christ's School Alumni Platinum Club Induction Dinner -December 2006.
  •  Christ's School Global Council - 2006.

First Project: Project Christ's School Renewal - Chief Ogunkua's Report

This project was commissioned about five years ago, by the Nigeria Alumni Association, to look into how our Great School can be released by the Government to Christ's School Alumni/Anglican Diocese, and also to have a plan for rebuilding Christ's School Ado-Ekiti completely. (The present condition of our great school is so deplorable, and is a big concern to all Alumni).

A committee was set up, headed by Chief O. Ogunkua to come up with a comprehensive plan to rebuild the school. The committee submitted their report over three years ago, and like any other report in Nigeria, the report was conveniently left at the back of the shelves to collect dust and cockroaches, until some wonderful Alumni decided to say NO to this ever occurring nature of ours, and are going all out to implement the Chief Ogunkua's Report, also known as Project Christ's School Renewal.

Looking inward, these great Alumni discovered that if our school is released to us by the Government today, are we really ready to run or rebuild the school? How can we run or rebuild a school without a good financial base? In order for us to be able to take our school back from the Government, and to rebuild the school, we must first have great economic power (finances) and some political influence. (As we speak all the Alumni Associations, worldwide cannot boast of N1million in their accounts, for the reason Nigerians do not have the culture to give back to their source or Alma Mater may be due to lack of trust for one another on accountability or selfishness).

How do we get Economic Power? The quest to answer this probing question brought about the next project. I call this project the greatest project that I have ever heard of, mainly because of the economic power and the contagious effect of this project later on.

Second Project: First Christ's School Alumni Platinum Club Induction Dinner - 2006

This great idea came in 2005, the aim was to recognise and induct great Alumni to special club(s), based on their financial commitments. From the Over N1million - Platinum Club to Over N100,000.00 bronze medal contributors. The main event of the night will be the celebration of Christ's School, the Platinum Inductees & all contributors, with the reading of citations for them and the presentation of Medals. The names of all the contributors will be inscribed on a Marble Wall to be erected on the grounds of Christ's School Ado-Ekiti, based on their Clubs (Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze).

This event is mainly to raise funds for our great school, and is about the best chance to upgrade our Alma Mater to the standard we all dream about. Can you all imagine a successful implementation of this event, where 100 or more great Alumni gave N1million & above each, maybe 300 Alumni plus Friends of Christ's School contributing N500,000.00 and above/per head, and another 300 with N250,000.00 and above, and maybe 300 or more with N100,000.00 each. Imagine the economic power that our great school will have. With God and good planning, we will definitely achieve this goal.

A finance committee will be set up to manage all the funds collected (Trust Account) with the help of a reputable financial/Accounting firm. All funds raised at the Platinum event will be kept in a reliable fixed deposit account until the school is taken back from the government. No Kobo will be spent out of the funds and there will be full accountability of all contributions.

* Planning Committees has been set up in three (3) zones, for the First Christ's School Platinum Club Induction Dinner that will take place in December 2006.

These zones are: Nigeria, United States of America/Canada, and United Kingdom/Europe/Asia.

There is an open invitation to all living Alumni, to be inducted to the Platinum Club and all the other clubs. Invitations are also extended to the families of some of our great Alumni who have passed on to rest with the Lord, whom their children will love to immortalize by having their names on the Marble Wall of Fame at Christ's School Ado-Ekiti.

The committees will also send out invitations to Alumni based on the committee's nominations. All Alumni are free to nominate anybody for the Platinum Club (self, classmates or parents). Nominations are equally welcome from class-sets, from 1936 to 2004. All nominations must be back with secured funds for all the club categories. The initial contacts for all the zones are:

The next stage is having a body that will manage the Funds and the rebuilding of Christ's School Ado-Ekiti, and this is where Project Christ's School Alumni World Council is needed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Third Project: Christ's School Alumni World Council

The body will serve as the Main Governing Body for all Alumni, the council will see to the implementation of project(s) in Christ's School, by approving the plans and sites of projects. This body will be representing the interest of all Alumni and Christ's School in meetings and functions. This is the body that will see to the implementation of Project Christ's School Renewal - Chief Ogunkua's Report, and the plan to take the school back.

Our goal is to have a Christ's School that all Alumni will be proud of, with good academic standard and a place where all of us will be willing to send our kids, just like our parents sent us. Can any one of us send our kid(s) or grandchildren to Christ's School now? My own answer is NO! May God help us all!

Honourable Alumni, our great School and Alumni association need your supports and contributions now more than ever.

Up School !!!
